On October 29, 1996, NBA Commissioner David Stern announced the 50 Greatest Players in NBA History, a comprehensive list assembled by an elite panel of media, former players and coaches, current and former general managers and team executives. Stern unveiled the list at a press luncheon at the Grand Hyatt Hotel in New York City, which occupies the site of the former Commodore Hotel, where the original NBA charter was signed on June 6, 1946. Coinciding with the release of the esteemed list was a hard-cover publication entitled The NBA at 50, an impressive tome in its own right, with spectacular photography and captivating biographical information. Offered here is perhaps the single most impressive copy of the book known to exist, having been signed on the front cover by 47 of the 50 players. Led by the tough signature of Bill Russell, this fantastic specimen is missing only Chamberlain, Mikan and Maravich, who was of course deceased at the time of publication. Jordan, Bird, Magic, Baylor and the others are all here for the avid hardwood enthusiast, making for a fantastic and possibly unique item that must have required tremendous dedication and perseverance to complete.
