Offered is an extremely rare early 20th century advertising piece, the only one of its kind that we have ever handled. Measuring 6" x 13" the front features raised lettering touting the Reach Patent Moulded Catchers Mitts set against a pleasing robin's egg blue backdrop, with an embossed image of their patented product and another of a player in catcher's gear, complete with mitt. The reverse is backed with paper, with a string for mounting and stamped lettering that reads "This sign is one of a series and cost us big money to have them made. They are for our mutual benefit, and if you will take the trouble to see that it is displayed in a good place we know that it will increase your sales of Reach Sporting Goods. If, for any reason you do not care to hang it up, kindly return it to us and we will put it to use elsewhere. A.J. Reach Company, Philadelphia, Pa." Four holes have been drilled for mounting and two small punctures straddling the word "exclusively" where perhaps a staple was removed. Who knows what wall in what sporting goods store this once hung on, but it has been preserved for posterity in overall original condition and is ready to be added to an advanced memorabilia collection.
