OK, this requires a bit of an explanation! A Yankee fan sent this 8 x 10 photo to Mickey Mantle with a request for an autograph, thinking it was "The Commerce Comet" catching a pop fly in the photo. While there is some resemblance that would make this mistake understandable, the photo is actually of Yankee infielder George "Snuffy" Stirnweiss. Whether it was Mantle's sense of humor getting the best of him or a resentment toward a Yankee fan that can't tell the difference between the beloved Bronx hero and a role player, Mantle obliged the fan and signed the photo ... Snuffy Stirnweiss! The signature is clearly penned by Mantle, with all the characteristics of his own iconic signature present from the shape of the lettering to Mantle's trademark upslope writing. James Spence/JSA agrees and has certified the signature as a Snuffy Stirnweiss autograph penned in the hand of Mantle. This is an unbelievable, one-of-a-kind item that any Mickey Mantle collector will treasure. Some items are extremely rare, but this one is unique!
