Out of over 1,800 submissions to PSA, only one 1958 Topps Sandy Koufax card has been graded GEM MINT while 20 others, like the specimen offered here, have graded PSA 9. Although it's understandable that PSA 10's aren't handed out liberally, especially on such a high profile card as this, we can honestly say that in our opinion this immaculate specimen should be in a GEM MINT holder. Each corner and edge of this beauty is solid GEM MINT, showing absolutely nothing around its 360 degree perimeter to make any observer think otherwise. The incredibly deep and detailed portrait of the Dodger great is supported by an incandescent yellow backdrop, as pack-fresh as we have ever witnessed, with virtually no superfluous print visible to the naked eye. The centering is spot-on and only accentuates the remarkable sharpness of the completely achromatic perimeter. In fact, the only reason we can imagine for the exclusion into PSA's ultimate grading class, and this is speculation at best, is a few white print marks inside the black nameplate, hardly noticeable and certainly not objectionable given the complete factory freshness of every other characteristic. Even the reverse appears as bold and fresh as the day it left the wax wrapper. Presented with out highest possible recommendation, this MINT marvel needs to be reviewed, more than once if necessary, until it reaches the GEM MINT status we believe it deserves!
