Graded 50 VG/EX 4 by the professional grading team at SGC, offered is an astounding 19th-Century tobacco pasteboard depicting the immortal Adrian "Cap" Anson, widely regarded as the first superstar of the game. This exciting cardboard artifact displays a dizzying array of colors, both in the background, as the light beige gradually approaches a burnt orange in the dramatic sunset schematic, and in the portrait of the player himself, with the deep blue tone of the eyes matching the darker shades of the jersey. Focus and registration are equally compelling, and the entire image is centered astutely among the narrow borders. Minor instances of tobacco staining are apparent on the reverse, but with no noticeable creases on the front or back, the overall eye-appeal of this tremendous item will have any formidable early tobacco collector clamoring to add this to his collection. A tremendous example from one of the most aesthetically pleasing sets of all time.
