There are few events more heartbreaking to the game of baseball than the tragic death of Pittsburgh Pirates great Roberto Clemente. Killed in a plane crash on New Year's Eve 1972 while delivering emergency supplies to earthquake ravaged Nicaragua, Clemente was more than just a great ballplayer; he was a national hero in his homeland of Puerto Rico. To this day, Clemente cards and memorabilia are among the most coveted in the hobby. Offered here is an extremely rare, blue ball-point autograph of Roberto Clemente on his iconic 1955 Topps rookie card. While Clemente's autograph had changed dramatically over time, the presented specimen was penned very early in his career and appears very much like the facsimile autograph printed on the card. His untimely passing at just 38 years old makes Clemente autographs of any kind difficult to obtain, but to find an early career autograph on his rookie card is almost unheard of!
