The presented example of R.L. Caruthers 1887 N28 Allen & Ginter issue has been graded SGC 70 EX+ 5.5 and displays stalwart mid-grade qualities throughout with a perfectly impressed image of "Parisian Bob," arguably one of the best two-way players in the history of the majors. Caruthers excelled as both a pitcher and an outfielder over a 10-year career in the short-lived Major League American Association. In 1887, for example, he went 29-9 on the mound with a 3.30 ERA and batted .357 in 364 at-bats. Some tolerable traces of chipping along the bottom edge and at the extreme tips of all four corners accounts for the grade.
