It was well over a century ago that the National League batting average leaderboard contains such legendary names as Wagner, Clarke and Evers. And those Hall of Famers were knocking around a Spalding Official National League ball just like the one offered here. While this aged sphere shows all of the signs of game use, we cannot guarantee it appeared in official league play. Oh, but it is fun to imagine "The Flying Dutchman" lining this orb down the left field line for a double, something he did quite often en route to leading the league seven times in two-baggers. Through the obvious wear, the Spalding logo and Official National League stamp are still visible, as well as the manufacturer's stamp to the left, but the red-inked National League President stamp has faded. The markings track the ball to the 1910 or 1911 season. A surviving relic from a burgeoning age of "The Great American Pastime."
