With an unusually wide array of sports icons packed into a 48-card collection, it's no wonder that the 1933 Goudey Sport Kings collection is one of the most popular assemblages ever produced. Presented is the one and only SGC 96 MINT 9 graded example Knute Rockne with none graded higher. One of the first true legends of football, coach Knute Rockne popularized the forward pass and built an incredible powerhouse program at the University of Notre Dame, capturing three National Championships and posting a record of 102-12-5 with five perfect undefeated seasons. Depicted on this high-number 1933 Sport Kings issue, the immortal professor is surrounded by a sea-green backdrop with red and black nameplates at the top and bottom, all delivered with pack-fresh boldness. The brilliant white border spotlights the card's near perfect MINT to GEM MINT corners with just a slight centering tick toward the right edge being perhaps the only obstacle to a GEM MINT grade, achieved just once at SGC out of all 3,162 cards submitted from the Sport Kings series. The reverse is equally as pristine, very slightly toned but possessing deep green print that has shown no evidence of fading over its 85 years of existence. A virtually perfect card of a true football pioneer from one of the most revered classics of sports card production. What more could you ask for?
