Offered is a truly exemplary specimen of Pete Rose's 1964 Topps card, his first of many solo appearances in the Topps library. Though he did win Rookie of the Year honors the previous season, it was mainly by default as his pedestrian six homers and .273 batting average were enough to best Ron Hunt, who put up similar numbers for the lowly New York Mets. But just 2 years later, Rose would go on a streak that saw him top the 200 hit mark in 10 of the next 15 seasons. Solidly centered with a glistening layer of original gloss, this card largely sidesteps the common hindrance of stray print, even in the exceptionally difficult black nameplate at the bottom of the obverse. The four corners each jut out to beautiful MINT points while the reverse is perfectly printed in bright orange. A tremendous card of one of the greatest hitters the game has ever known, offered in rare MINT condition and without a single GEM MINT specimen on file at PSA.
