From 1941-1953, the Dodgers met the New York Yankees in the World Series five times ... and lost all five. But that changed in 1955, and maybe the signal that the tide was turning came in 1954 when the Dodgers signed Sandy Koufax, giving him a contract that contained a bonus which required Koufax to report to the major league team for two years. Presented here is a fantastic example of Sandy Koufax from 1961, the final year of production of Morrell Meats Dodgers cards. This one has been graded by PSA 8.5, one of 2 at the NM/MT+ level with just five graded a half-point higher. Snapped during the pre-Dodger Stadium days when the team played at the Los Angeles Memorial Coliseum, the fact that Koufax is even in the issue despite having yet had a productive season is a testament to the confidence they still had in his ability. The offered card barely shows any evidence of chipping along the delicate full-bleed edges or even at the extreme tips. An elite-level card for any advanced Koufax collector.
