The Allman Brothers Band was formed in Jacksonville, FL in 1969, by brothers Duane and Gregg Allman. Both musicians had already established themselves in the music industry, with Duane, in particular, having made a name for himself as an excellent session guitarist, having recorded with the likes of Aretha Franklin, Wilson Pickett and King Curtis. The band cultivated a particularly diverse sound, incorporating elements of jazz, blues, and country, becoming a pioneer of the Southern rock genre, and enjoyed a blast of commercial success with their 1971 live album, At Filmore East. Unfortunately, tragedy would strike the band, not just once, but multiple times, beginning with the death of Duane in a motorcycle accident in their hometown of Macon, GA on October 29, 1971. Founding member Berry Oakley, the group's bass guitarist, also perished in a motorcycle accident which happened just three blocks from the intersection where Duane died, on November 11, 1972. The band persevered, however, hiring replacement musicians and playing to some of the biggest crowds of their career, until legal problems, substance abuse issues and internal fighting led to the first breakup, in 1976. The band reformed and split several times after that, with many lineup changes. Presented here is a multi-signed Gibson Epiphone SG guitar, featuring the autographs of original members Gregg Allman, Jai Johanny "Jaimoe" Johanson, Dickie Betts and Butch Trucks, along with new additions Warren Haynes and Allen Woody. Jaimoe has added the date 8/26/91 below his endorsement and Woody had inscribed "ABB '91." Gregg passed away in May of 2017 due to complications from liver cancer, and Woody, who had formed the side project Govt. Mule with Haynes, passed from unknown causes in August of 2000. This is a highly desirable and collectible item, not only for the signatures of the deceased band members, but for the quality of the guitar itself, which has the serial number 9050399 on the back of the headstock. In short, this is a very important piece of musical history, from one of the all-time great American rock and roll bands, and is absolutely deserving of a place in any advanced memorabilia collection.
