Though hardly the national obsession it is today, baseball in the late 19th century was dominated by professional teams like the Detroit Wolverines and Philadelphia Quakers, with superstars that included Roger Conner, Buck Ewing and Cap Anson. The featured lithograph was printed in 1887 and captures a very different feel for baseball than we experience today, far more intimate and not quite as heralded. Various stains and tearing of the paper are to be expected given the 130 years that have passed but the piece displays well in the 16 1/2" x 20 1/2" wooden frame.
