To many baseball fans in the midwest and western United States, the post-season barnstorming tours of the game's most popular players were more important than the actual season because it gave fans who lived nowhere close to a professional baseball team the opportunity to see their favorite players in person. Led by Babe Ruth and Lou Gehrig, the exhibition matches between the "Larrupin' Lous" and "Bustin' Babes" were as popular as any game the Yankees or Athletics could play. The featured photo is a moment frozen in time from that legendary 1927 barnstorming tour, dated 10/27/27 and shows American League MVP Lou Gehrig presenting a check for $1,000 to "Lefty" O'Doul as the prize for being the MVP of the Pacific Coast League. The photo has moderate wear and some missing paper around the perimeter but presents beautifully and aptly records a significant moment in baseball history, with the World Wide photo stamp and teletype caption from the San Francisco newspaper on the reverse.
Terrific 1927 Lou Gehrig and Lefty ODoul Barnstorming Original Type I Photograph
