Entering the 1969 season as a 38-year old veteran, "The Say Hey Kid" needed just 13 round-trippers to give Babe Ruth some company in the illustrious 600 home run club. Mays did it with his last dinger of the year, with fellow Hall of Famer Hank Aaron joining two years later. The featured Louisville Slugger Model S2 bat is a stunning piece of baseball history, used by the legendary Willie Mays during the 1969-72 time period that sent homer #600 over the wall for Mays. The combination of the C-20 centerbrand and P-10 style "Powerized" places it in the aforementioned time period with additional affirmation from the bat's specifications of 35" length and 34.7 ounce weight. "S2" is engraved in the knob with May's "24" written in two different colors of ink. Solid game use is exhibited in the form of various ball and bat rack marks, along with with a chip in the side of the knob and remnants of pine tar that extend all the way to the centerbrand. Originating from one of the greatest players in baseball history and the first bonafide "5-tool" superstar, this museum-quality piece can serve as a cornerstone to any advanced collection. LOA from John Taube - PSA/DNA with a grade of GU 8.5.
