Though the 1955 Pittsburgh Pirates finished dead last in the National League, better times were on the horizon as their 20-year old right fielder had taken his first steps toward immortality. Roberto Clemente didn't produce much that first season, smacking just 5 homers while battling a paltry .255, but it wasn't long before Clemente was leading the Pirates to two World Series championships and claiming four National League batting titles. Roberto and 21 others have signed this ONL (Giles) baseball from Clemente's rookie season. Flanked by Kline and Surkont, the signature of Clemente is clean and reminiscent of his facsimile signature on the '55 Topps rookie card, later changing it to a more polished, looping autograph. Manager Fred Haney is on the sweet spot with Law, Long, Groat, J and E. O'Brien, Cole, Mejias, Saffell, Koback, Littlefield, Purkey, Dinoso, Lynch, Friend, King, Peterson, Ward and Freese. LOA from JSA.
