Some say in hockey it's Gretzky and Messier, maybe Jordan and Pippen in basketball, while football had Montana to Rice. But go ahead and fight me if you don't think Ruth and Gehrig were the most dominant one-two punch in all of sports history. It wasn't enough that the Yankees made the move to acquire one of the top pitchers in the game, only to convert him into baseball's greatest offensive juggernaut. No, they had to go ahead and find him a teammate that matched him stride for stride and never missed a game in 13 straight seasons. Gehrig and Ruth were true icons of sport, each possessing a personal history and temperament that couldn't be more different from one another but share a common tragedy, each passing before the age of 50 from a wasting disease. The featured OAL (Harridge) ball is signed by Ruth and Gehrig, "The Bambino" commandeering the sweet spot as usual and Gehrig yielding on a side panel that runs perpendicular to Ruth just above the Reach logo. Both signatures have faded somewhat but are clearly legible. Some light spotting and wear is visible but expected given the age of this vintage orb. An incredible piece of baseball history!
