It didn't take long for Reggie Jackson, the #2 overall pick in the 1966 major league draft to go from the campus of Arizona State to the big show, appearing in 35 games with the A's in 1967 while they were still in Kansas City. While his one home run, 46 strikeouts and .178 batting average in 118 at-bats that season wasn't exactly thrilling the Kansas City faithful, Oakland fans were singing his praises two years later when he posted 47 round trippers and drove in 118 runs. Reggie's rookie card appears in the 1969 Topps series, and although most collectors tend to think high-grade cards from this set are "easy," just try opening a pack and see how many are actually centered well enough to reach NM/MT. The offered card is not quite perfectly centered but well within the limits of the MINT grade with central image color that is deep and bold with a stunning combination of blues and greens that captivate the senses. Each of the four corners are exact, all qualified as MINT and close to GEM MINT. The surface is shimmering with a stunning layer of gloss that encompasses the entire card and the reverse is splendid with a lighter salmon that is chip free along the perimeter. Well over 5,000 have been graded and just one has graded higher.
