Featuring the rookie cards of Hall of Famers George Blanda and Doug Atkins, along with a cast of legends that includes Van Brocklin, Graham, Layne and Gifford, the 1954 Bowman football series is one of the most coveted gridiron collections ever produced. Expanded to 128 cards from the previous year's 96, the set is difficult to assemble in high grade, in large part due to the short print third sheet, cards #65-96. But the collection offered here hails from one of the most well known set-builders of this series whose satisfaction didn't stop at just the numerical grade. Our consignor was adamant about perfect image registration, often replacing PSA 9 examples with other PSA 9 examples that featured a more accurate central image. It's this unyielding diligence that has resulted in one of the finest collections ever assembled, ranked #3 on the PSA Set Registry with a set rating of 9.591. In all, 114 of the 128 cards are graded PSA 9, with four graded PSA 8.5, seven graded PSA 8, and three graded PSA 10 GEM MINT that include the one and only specimen of #104 Jerome Williams to achieve PSA's highest possible grade. Also included are the "variation" cards of #97 Tom Finnan (PSA 8, none graded higher) and 102 Emlen Tunnell (PSA 8.5, pop one, just one graded higher), which are not listed as part of the PSA Set Registry, making it a true Master Set. To further complete the collection, a NM/MT one-cent and five-cent wrapper on included, making this the most comprehensive 1954 Bowman assemblage possible. About 2/3 of the cards in the set are graded at the highest level in existence from PSA.
