Looking at the extensive history of professional sports, only a handful of athletes can be said to have genuinely changed the way their game is played. Babe Ruth obviously comes to mind, as does Bobby Orr, the young native of Parry Sound, Ontario who took the NHL by storm in 1966 with the Boston Bruins. Never before had a defenceman showed such superior offensive skills, leading the Bruins to think he might be better suited at center. His impact was immediate; in fact, said longtime Bruins coach and GM Harry Sinden, "Bobby became a star in the NHL about the time they played the National Anthem for his first game with us." Offered proudly is his coveted rookie card, graded NM/MT 8 by PSA. This pasteboard features a crystal-clear image of the immortal Hall of Famer, with scintillating colors and a fresh-looking application of factory gloss. The horizontal upper corners appear above-grade, while the lower endpoints show very light indications of handling. To date, only two examples have graded higher at PSA from over 550 total submissions, indicating just how condition-sensitive these wood-grain pasteboards can be. With neither of those examples likely to be unearthed any time soon, this is a prime opportunity to acquire one of the most electrifying hockey rookie cards in existence!
