Quite possible the hottest post-war rookie card on the market today, the 1955 Topps Roberto Clemente is relatively common in low to mid grades but commands a premium at the PSA 8 level. And put the emphasis on premium, as record high prices seem to be emerging on a weekly basis, threatening to push upper-level examples out of the reach to all but the most well-financed hobbyists. While the Koufax rookie card from the same series enjoys a similar following, it has twice as many specimens listed on the PSA pop report at a grade of PSA 8 or better condition, a key factor to Clemente's debut card being one of the five most collected specimens of the last 60 years. Offered here is a marvelous PSA 8 example displaying an accurate image against a clean green backdrop with a still-shimmering factory sheen that is sure to make its new owner beam with excitement. The slight preference toward the horizontal southwest is mild, even for the elevated grade, while the endpoints show minor touches of wear at the extreme tips, indicative of a high-end NM/MT specimen. A slight rough cut to the east edge only serves to make the card even more alluring. This is an opportunity to secure a top-notch PSA 8 specimen, the absolute key to building a world-class '55 Topps set, before the value gets completely out of hand.
