Graded PSA 8 NM/MT. Kicking off the colorful 1958 Topps issue, Ted Williams takes the #1 Topps poll position for the third time in just 5 years with this vibrant, yellow-backed, intimate head-shot. Incredibly, 1,500+ examples have been reviewed by PSA, and a scant 8 have surfaced in MINT 9 condition, with none higher, and not even a single NM/MT+ 8.5 specimen yet on record. Compare these population figures with those for Teddy's 1954 and 1957 Topps #1 cards, which report 5 MINT 9's and 2 NM/MT+ 8.5's and 15 MINT 9's and 2 NM/MT+ 8.5's on record, respectively (and to the date of this composition). Clearly, the highly coveted 1958 Topps #1 "Teddy Ballgame" card is as difficult to find in top grades as its iconic predecessors, and perhaps even more so considering that it comes from a slightly later year. A presentable NM/MT 8 example of Teddy's final Topps card issued during his celebrated playing career.
