One of the greatest natural hitters ever, Joe Jackson is portrayed in this die-cut Type 2 photo, developed from the original negative but done so more than two years after the original photo was taken. In fact, this photo was used several times in stories concerning Joe, as the verso has "The Philadelphia Inquirer" stamp plus THREE different date stamps. The dates are "Feb 12, 1934," "Oct 12, 1938" and "Dec 5, 1951." While we have yet to determine the 1938 date stamp, the Feb, 1934 date corresponds to Jackson's attempt to gain reinstatement, and the subsequent denial from still Commissioner Kenesaw Mountain Landis. The December 5th date is the date of Jackson's death. Small tear in photo with a few printer marks on obverse. Very significant image of Shoeless Joe!
