Well before the days of multi-million dollar contracts that sent elite athletics to live in private gated communities, baseball players were simply men of the people, often living right down the street from the adoring fans that watched then play at the ballpark. As great a player as Jim Bottomley was, he not only lived among the common man but had no qualms about people knowing it, as this heavy brass 8" x 4" doorknocker with its "James L. Bottomley" engraving ensured the visitor that they had found "Sunny Jim." Included are the screws to attach it to any front door. An interesting piece that comes directly from the Bottomley estate.
