On April 23, 1900, the quality of baseball's future took a turn for the better. This official Certification of Birth Record names James. L. Bottomley as having been born in Oglesby, Illinois to father John Bottomley and Mother Bessie Carter, with the certified copy dated Feb. 10, 1945. Less than a year later, Bottomley's future wife Carrie Elizabeth (Betty) Brawner was born in Missouri on Feb. 27, 1901. This group includes both certified copies of the birth certificate of Mr. and Mrs. Jim Bottomley.
