Some of the greatest ballplayers to ever take the diamond have signed this commemorative Hall of Fame first day cover. While the first Hall of Fame class was chosen in 1936, the physical building that would stand in Cooperstown as a shrine to the game's absolute finest wasn't open until three years later, with most of the living members of the 16 elected from 1936-38 and the 10 members elected in 1939 attending the event. The featured first day cover carries several iconic signatures that were likely attained at the ribbon-cutting ceremony, with spot-on autographs of Walter Johnson, Grover Cleveland Alexander and Cy Young on the front and a stunning black ink signature of Ty Cobb on the reverse. Two other important signatures were added later on, Mickey Mantle and Hank Aaron, with a Joe DiMaggio signature in the lower left corner deemed to be a secretarial version. Some staining and age discoloration is present but does nothing to distract your eye from the selection of iconic signatures of the group of baseball immortals. A timeless piece that will only become more coveted as time passes. LOA from PSA/DNA.
