Presented is an alluring and altogether exceptionally scarce pennant of the Boston Red Sox that was issued to commemorate the back bay nine's American League Championship. Measuring an impressive 34 1/2" x 10 3/4" including the tassels on the end the pennant trumpets the 1915 Championship on the left end of the pennant while an old English style font is used for "Red Sox" across middle of the pennant, all of this is set against a muted red that over the years has justifiably lost some of its steam. In our research we talked with several prominent and longtime Red Sox collectors who informed us that the offered pennant is the much scarcer 1915 variety and has only been encountered a handful of times even in New England. 1915 saw the Red Sox go 101-50 and defeat the Philadelphia Phillies in 6 games to win the Worlds Championship. The lineup included the likes of Hall Of Famers Tris Speaker who batted a robust .322 with 69 RBIs as well as an emerging Harry Hooper, while the pitching staff was led by the likes of Rube Foster as well as Smokey Joe Wood, but it was a barrel chested spindly legged teenager named Babe Ruth who made his debut that year who grabbed many of the headlines. Ruth would attain a record of 18-8 on the mound with a 2.44 ERA while occasionally playing in the outfield, a place where he would eventually make his true fame. The pennant displays minimally as VG/EX to EX with an area on the left side having been professionally restored that includes the tassels and extends into the pennant 3" on the top and 1" towards the bottom, the restoration has been executed to perfection and matches the original to a tee. The pennant has been framed to the dimensions of 46" x 21 1/2". A stunning and important item for any serious Red Sox fan.
