While the NBA was still in its infancy, an even older tradition thrived with a barnstorming basketball troupe that was founded in the 1920s, the acrobatic Harlem Globetrotters. Moving forward into the 1950s when the team was led by Marques Haynes and Goose Tatum, this tremendous broadside appeared in cities all across American to announce their coming arrival, sponsored by Coca-Cola. Tatum and Haynes appear on the sign, one of the few advertising pieces of its time featuring black men, and displayed in predominantly black neighborhoods. The sign measures approximately 20" x 36" in size on heavy cardboard stock with considerable wear and pinholes at the corners, water staining along the lower-left corner that has caused the paper backing to come loose, and a few mild creases and surface abrasions. But overall, it displays magnificently. A fine crossover piece for sports advertising collectors and Coca-Cola fanatics alike.
