Sunny Jim had a close relationship with team trainer Doc Weaver, which is probably why he averaged 135 games played per season for the bulk of his career. During one of their spring training stints, Weaver made this seashell ashtray for Bottomley with the Cardinals logo and "Bradenton, FL" across the opening with "To Jim Bottomley From Doc Weaver - March 31." Clearly, it meant a lot to Bottomley as it remained with his personal items upon his death and was handed down several more times until it reached the stepdaughter of his widow. A cool piece of history that would pair well with the cigar and lighter also featured in this auction.
