OK, I'm just gonna come right out and say it ... by the time his career is finished, first baseman Albert Pujols may go down in baseball history as the greatest hitter ever. No, not the greatest "since Ted Williams", not the greatest "after Ruth, Gehrig, and Mays", the greatest hitter ever … EVER! Now he's got a way to go, but no hitter in baseball history can match the body of work that Pujols has accumulated in his first 10 seasons, averaging over 40 home runs, 120 RBI and a .331 batting average PER SEASON. In fact, he has been so consistently spectacular that he is the only hitter ever to bat over .300 with 30 or more home runs and 100 or more runs batted in for 10 consecutive seasons. To put this in perspective, legendary hitters Willie Mays and Mickey Mantle played a combined 40 major league seasons, and TOGETHER they've accomplished the feat 10 times. Even the great Ted Williams did it only seven times. And Pujols is only 30 years old! To Cardinals fans, Stan Musial was "The Man", but Albert Pujols is undoubtedly "The Machine."
