After his retirement in 1987, "Dr. J" was invited to a New Jersey Nets game with two other players (John Williamson and Bill Melchionni) whose jersey numbers had been retired by the team. The three players of honor were gifted a 1988 New York Nets throwback style jersey by the team that contains all of the proper tagging of the uniforms that the players wore that day, including the year tag, extra length tag, and proper Sand Knit labels. Based on their 26-56 record that season, perhaps the hope was that the three players would come out of retirement and play. LOA from Mile High Card Company.
