It's widely accepted that Mississippi Valley State product Jerry Rice is the greatest wide receiver in NFL history, and many make the case that he's the greatest football player ever, regardless of position! As the all-time leader in receptions, receiving yards, receiving TDs, yards from scrimmage and all-purpose yards, Rice's rookie card would be highly collected no matter which football card set it appeared in. But it happens to be in the 1986 Topps set, a notoriously condition-sensitive collection fraught with centering issues and chipping problems along its signature, glowing-green border. PSA has graded almost 15,000 1986 Topps Jerry Rice rookie cards and a mere 50 have earned the mark of PSA 10, making it an even more elusive find than the 1981 Topps Joe Montana and 1976 Walter Payton rookie cards; pasteboards that break price records virtually every time they're offered for sale. As for this Rice RC, it's really a privilege just to be able to see it in person! The centering is dead-on, which might seem a little strange if you've handled a lot of cards from this series and grown accustomed to the well-documented centering problems. The incredible lack of chipping around the perimeter will immediately tempt you to grab a loupe and start a thorough examination, only to conclude what PSA has already displayed on the label; it's GEM MINT all the way. This is a signature piece that could easily headline any advanced collection!
