Sports card collectors have enjoyed watching the value of their collections flourish in recent years, but several key non-sports classics have taken off as well. Wax boxes of 1985 Topps Garbage Pail Kids Series 1 are rapidly taking their place with the 1986 Fleer basketball box as the most coveted piece of unopened modern material in the hobby. A satirical, tongue-in-cheek nod to the popularity of Cabbage Patch Kids dolls, Topps created a series dedicated to a mildly macabre version of the pudgy-faced critters that has become wildly popular among non-sports card collectors. The Garbage Pail Kids, or "GPK", series is the largest single-theme card set since the invention of bubble gum. While most of the cards from the 15 (yes, 15) different series are fairly easy to find, it's the scarce 1st series from 1985 that carries a hefty premium. Offered here is a complete 48-count wax box of 1st series GPK cards, each pack individually graded by PSA. All packs have the 25-cent stamp, with 26 graded PSA 8 and the other 22 graded PSA 7. The original display box is included. From "Nasty Nick" to "Drunk Ken" and the always popular "Adam Bomb" there are plenty of opportunities to raise some numbers at the top end of the PSA Set Registry. These are the "Wacky Packs" of the next generation that just keep continuing to blow up in price.
