While almost everyone would agree that Ozzie Smith was inducted into the Hall of Fame primarily for his remarkable fielding skills, it's often overlooked that Smith logged 2,460 hits and stole 580 bases in his 19-year career. But yeah, it's the fielding that got him in. "The Wizard of Oz" won 13 consecutive Gold Glove Awards and is #2 All-Time in assists behind Rabbit Maranville. While his glove was clearly his greatest tool on the diamond, we're nevertheless pleased to offer Ozzie Smith's game-used batting helmet, protecting the coconut of Smith in the mid to late 1980s. The ABC helmet features Smith's preferred flapless design, with red dymo tape "1" on the front bill and "Smith" on the back. An American Baseball Cap sticker with size 7 1/4" is inside the helmet, as is a black marker "'89",possibly to denote the year, although the stamped clock at the top of the inside suggests the helmet was manufactured in 1986. Regardless of the season it was used, this is a beautiful Ozzie Smith gamer that belongs in a stunning memorabilia collection. LOA from Lou Lampson, Mile High Card Co.
