Up for auction is a completely intact, still-stapled, factory-issued, 16-count 1975 Topps Mini Wax Case. As pictured, the presented case displays some expected wear and age toning from sitting in storage for the last 35 years, but it is completely intact and still shows the original Topps shipping label, addressed to a John G. Warnke in Ypsilanti, Michigan. A favorite with collectors since the very first days of its limited distribution, the 1975 Topps Mini set was actually a test issue distributed exclusively in Michigan and on the West Coast to assess how collectors would respond to cards that were 20% smaller than the regular Topps issue (cards measure 2-1/4" by 3-1/8" as opposed to 2-1/2" by 3-1/2"). Uncirculated within this case are 16 complete boxes each housing 36 packs of 10 cards each for a grand total of 5,760 potentially MINT to GEM MINT 1975 Topps miniature masterpieces. Although not nearly as limited as earlier Topps test issues, the PSA population report for the set still shows hundreds of examples that are either Pop 1s in GEM MINT or have never been slabbed PSA 10 at all, despite the fact that it remains one of the most collected sets of the entire decade. Options abound for the winning bidder: crack all 576 packs, gift a handful for the holidays, grade a few dozen or maybe a few hundred, sell off a few boxes, sell 15 boxes and perhaps get the 16th free, or simply put the entire case back into storage.
