The decade that was the 1970s was not kind to the Atlanta Braves. In fact, when October rolled around each year and playoff fever swept over hopeful fans around the nation, the city of Atlanta sat on the sidelines, going the entire decade without a single appearance. However, the Braves were not completely lacking talent, as ace knuckleballer Phil Niekro won 164 games, with double-digit wins every season from 1970-1979. Retiring in 1987, "Knucksie" concluded a 24-year career with 318 lifetime wins, #16 on the All-Time wins list, and ranks 4th All-Time with over 5,000 innings pitched and 11th in career strikeouts with 3,342. Presented is a classic 1972 Atlanta Braves game-used jersey, worn by Hall of Famer Phil Niekro. The iconic white jersey with blue sleeves sports the famed Braves logo in blue and white, outlined by a tight red stitching that fastens the letters and numbers to the jersey. Inside the collar is the Sand-Knit size 42 label, Atlanta Braves exclusivity label and white felt team tag with blue cursive lettering "Niekro 72 Set 2." The jersey exhibits great game use, with stains on the fabric and puckering of the numbers on both sides. A rare classic gamer of a 70s Hall of Famer! LOA from Mile High Card Co.
