If you collect game-used helmets, here's a classic gamer of historical significance, perhaps related to one of the most important moments in NFL history, that will be in the forefront of your esteemed collection. Straight from the "Steel Curtain" days of the 1970s Pittsburgh Steelers comes this incredible game-used helmet, worn by one of the most beloved players in the Iron City, running back Franco Harris. The helmet is made by Riddell and is the TK-2 spherical model used in the 70s. It has the traditional single mustard yellow stripe and numbers “32 on the front and back. Franco’s open gray cage is still present, but two of the four clips have broken and the cage is only held in place by two clips, making it quite fragile. The suspension is size 7 3/8” and the front leather headband has become disengaged. It has been speculated that Harris wore this helmet during his “Immaculate Reception” in an AFC playoff game on December 23, 1972. While we are unable to confirm this, and are not offering it as such, there is evidence to suggest the possibility. Over the right ear hole is a factory stamped time clock reading “72-3/4” for March/April of 1972. In all probability, this helmet was used circa 1972 thru 1974 and appears to have been reconditioned at least once. Also, the Steelers used slashes on the sticker as an identifier, and the offered helmet has two slashes, one at 12 o’clock and one at 5 o’clock. Overall, an amazing early career representation of the Steelers’ hall of Fame running back. LOA from Lou Lampson, Mile High Card Co.
