If you thought lightning doesn't strike twice, you need to take a closer look at the 1970-71 Topps basketball set. After introducing the rookie card of Lew Alcindor in their return to the hardcourt the previous year, Topps followed up their latest inaugural issue with a sophomore "tall-boy" collection that features the debut card of Hall of Fame phenom Pete Maravich. While the Maravich rookie, card #123, is not attainable in this first series wax box, authenticated and encased in plastic with a grade of GAI 8, there are several significant issues like the short-printed John Havlicek card, Pat Riley's rookie, Wilt Chamberlain, Lew Alcindor and Oscar Robertson. Even the wrappers, an oversized blue and red covering with a bright yellow starburst to advertise the giant action poster insert, is one of the most artistic paper housings ever produced by Topps. A prized possession that can only become more valuable with the passage of time.

***ADDENDUM*** This description has been revised from that published in the catalog to better clarify that this is a 1st series wax box and does not contain card #123 Pete Maravich RC.
