From his first Topps appearance in 1952 until his last hurrah of 1969, the number of cards that outshine the Mickey Mantle pasteboard of any given year can be counted on one hand, but one such card is the 1969 Topps introduction of Hall of Famer Reggie Jackson. The subject of one of the biggest draft day blunders in baseball history, the future "Mr. October" was passed over by the New York Mets with the #1 pick of the 1966 draft, opting for a catcher that never made it to the major league level. The Kansas City Athletics scooped up Reggie Jackson at #2. A few years later when the team relocated to Oakland, fans were singing Reggie's praises when he posted 47 round-trippers and drove in 118 runs. By the time his career was over, Reggie Jackson was a World Series hero in both Oakland and New York, cementing his legacy as a true legend known for delivering in the clutch. The offered 1969 Topps Reggie Jackson card provides central image color and sharpness that is deep and bold; a precise combination of blues and greens that captivate the senses. Each of the four corners is exact, all qualified as MINT by PSA specifications while the surface is shimmering with a stunning layer of gloss that encompasses the entire card and reverse that is splendid with an uncommonly bold salmon tint that is chip-free along the perimeter. The centering is a degree or two toward the southwest but easily within MINT specifications and might have received GEM MINT consideration had the framing been spot-on. An important specimen that is quickly rising up the charts with advanced collectors.
