This is one of rarest sets of all 1960s Topps test issues. This is one of the few Topps sets from the 1960s that make 1968 Topps 3Ds look common! This set was never issued to the public and fewer than 100 examples are known to exist. With that said the offered example is far rarer than even that as it has received a numerical grade by PSA which signals that the featured card actually was contained within a wax pack and as such it was cut in the original process by Topps and not sheet cut as a great many of these rare cards were. The card features color portraits of each of the twelve American League players in the set, including Mickey Mantle, Al Kaline, Harmon Killebrew, Jim Hunter, Frank Robinson, and Carl Yastrzemski. This example is virtually flawless, with four sharp corners, bold colors, and perfect player images. The downgrade to a VG/EX grade is due to the exceptionally minor wrinkles and indentions from the placement of the plastic sprue which rested up against this collectible. This is one of the most interesting, attractive, and high quality of all Topps test issues. Ironically, this contrasts drastically with the quirky plastic Plaks themselves, which are being checklisted by these beautiful cards, and which have a completely different charm to Topps test issue collectors. Of the 40 copies of this card that have been graded by PSA 28 of the examples have been graded as Authentic because they were sheet cut, the featured copy is surpassed by just 6 copies on the PSA census. Without question one of Mickey Mantl's most difficult and rare Topps cards!
