Having been traded to the St. Louis Cardinals prior to the start of the 1967 season, the Roger Maris card printed as a Yankee was never issued in packs and surviving examples are blank-back proofs which can never receive a numerical grade from PSA. A small quantity of these blank-backed proof cards were cut from sheets by the legendary Topps art director and hobby pioneer Woody Gelman for the benefit of collectors. The remaining sheets were most likely destroyed when the company's building and inventory succumbed to fire in the late 1970s. A must-have for avid Maris aficionados and Yankee collectors alike, this specimen presents in overall EX/MT condition, notwithstanding the evident centering shift.
