In 1966, Topps decided to load up the first series with many of their prized mega-stars (Mays, Rose, Mantle, Yaz, Koufax, Banks, and the rookie card of Jim Palmer among others) while short-printing a large part of the high-number series, creating a 598-card assemblage that became an adventure for would-be set builders. The offered set is missing just one card, #591 Grant Jackson, and is approximately 25% NM/MT, 40% NM and 35% EX/MT and many of the key stars and short prints are graded, with a PSA 8.5 #550 McCovey and PSA 8 examples of #36 Hunter, 70 Yastrzemski, 125 Brock, 300 Clemente, 320 Gibson, 525, 541, 551, 555, 558 Scott RC, 569, 575, 578, 580 B. Williams, 586 and 589.
