At a lanky 6'4" and 200 pounds, Hall of Famer Willie McCovey was appropriately nicknamed "Stretch," possessing a long, looping swing that launched 521 round-trippers over a 22 year career. McCovey twice led the National League in both home runs and RBI, the second of which was his National League MVP season of 1969. A big man like McCovey needed a big bat, and this 34 1/2 inch, 33 1/2 ounce model K44 Louisville Slugger appears to have done the trick. Dated to the 1965-67 time period from the centerbrand (McCovey swatted 106 homers during that three year period), the bat is uncracked and shows outstanding use with ball marks and stitch impressions visible all over the barrel, while cleat marks and bat rack streaks are also visible. The upper handle has a light coating of pine tar and the model number K44 is stamped on the knob, which also has a faint but still visible McCovey number "44" written in black marker. All characteristics considered, the bat has earned a GU 9 authentication rating from PSA/DNA. McCovey has added his harmonious black marker signature to the barrel just under his block letter name. A truly wonderful gamer from a legendary Hall of Famer. LOA from John Taube - PSA/DNA.
