Baseball history was made in the 9th inning of a Mets-Giants game on September 1st, 1964 when Masanori Murakami took the hill for San Francisco, becoming the first Japanese born player in major league baseball. The 21-year old sensation was proving to be a strong closer but due to contractual obligations, returned to Japan where he enjoyed an 18-year career and paved the way for future players of Asian decent.
