There aren't many post-war baseball stars that can compare in popularity to the great Hall of Famer Roberto Clemente. Clemente wasn't just a superstar ballplayer with a body of work worthy of Cooperstown, though that would certainly be enough for any man. Clemente wasn't just a superstar baseball player who carried on his shoulders the hope and optimism of every child in his native Puerto Rico that they, too, could some day live out their dream playing the great American pastime on the world's largest stage. That would be more than enough for any man ... except this man. Roberto Clemente was an ambassador to the world, a humanitarian that achieved the American dream but never lost sight of those just struggling to survive. And it was Clemente's tragic passing, lost in a plane crash while delivering needed food and medical supplies halfway across the world, that made Roberto Clemente more than a man, it made him a legend. It's no wonder that so many hobbyists have Roberto Clemente collections on the PSA Set Registry, but none of them have one of these. Presented is the one and only PSA 10 example of Roberto Clemente from the popular 1964 Kahn's Wieners series, an issue so difficult to find in high grade that there is also only one graded PSA 9 specimen, and that's from a total of 77 submissions. The image of Clemente is flawless, set against a sunny blue sky with the Spring training stadium bleachers in the backdrop. And it's astonishing to see this Kodak quality photo with its bright and precise color surrendering nothing in the way of chipping, not on the edges, not even at the extreme tips. The reverse is equally as pristine, which would rightly lead anyone to believe that this marvel never made contact with the meat product and had been safely secured right up to the day it met its PSA grader.
