Any MINT card from the extremely condition-sensitive 1962 Topps series is cause for celebration, but when it happens to be the Mickey Mantle issue that honors yet another nod to the All-Star team, it becomes an example worthy of a collection ranking at or near the top of the highly publicized PSA Set Registry. While Mantle didn't come close to duplicating the incredible body of work he put up the previous season in the midst of a home run race with teammate Roger Maris, he did post his eighth consecutive season reaching 30-homers and with a .321 batting average, captured not only his 11th straight All-Star invite but also his 3rd and final American League MVP award. Unquestionably one of "The Commerce Comet's" most difficult regular Topps issues to attain in a PSA 9 holder, this featured item is one of just 11 examples in its grade with none higher, placing it in comparable company with Mantle's 1952 Topps #311 and 1953 Topps #82 in terms of scarcity. Boasting a remarkably well-centered and registered image with chip-free corners and a glossy MINT surface devoid of any print marks, it might leave you wondering why PSA stopped short of awarding the first ever GEM MINT rating as we do. Mile High has offered a few PSA 9 examples over the years but this is the finest one we've ever seen!
