Coming off of another 40 round-tripper season and heading into what would become a legendary home-run race with Roger Maris to see who could knock the iconic Babe Ruth out the record books for the greatest single home run total, Mickey Mantle is portrayed with a very confident pose on his 1961 Topps card. A deep, attention-commanding black background frames the slugger, who appears in his home pinstripes and adorned with the regal Yankee cap atop his head. Four powerfully MINT corners, with the bottom two endpoints appearing to reach GEM MINT status, team with the lustrous surface, shimmering with factory gloss. An exciting red and yellow nameplate announces Mantle, his peachy flesh-tones and perfectly shaded facial image making every pinstripe faithful take notice. The reverse is well printed without a distraction to be found. A stunning card offered at the very highest level of the MINT grade approaching consideration for the next grading tier!
