The almost mythical 1961 Topps Dice Game was being designed as a stand-alone product, not a Topps insert, with a pair of dice and an 18 card player collection; nine cards from each league with each position represented to make two starting lineups. While the idea never got past the early development stages, it's thought that Topps produced a few of each card for the purposes of having test subjects play the game and give their feedback. Several of the cards featured in this auction have writing on the back, most probably revisions to the dice-pitch outcomes to make the game more realistic. This incredible example of Bill White apparently was not in need of any changes as the reverse is unmarked and the sharpness of the card lands it at a grade of SGC 5. Specimens from this ultra-rare edition make an appearance from time to time but this is the first instance a Bill White card has ever surfaced, and for all we know, there may never be another.
