In the short conversation regarding the most dominant player in any of the four major sports, you inevitably have Babe Ruth, Wayne Gretzky, most likely these days Tom Brady, and when it comes to the hardwood, few can deny the incomparable Wilt Chamberlain. No doubt he was bigger and stronger than just about anyone in his generation, but his work ethic was exemplary beyond reproach. To wit: in 1961, he averaged more than 50 points and 25 rebounds per game, two mind-boggling stats to be sure, but to me the more impressive figure is average minutes played. That would be 48.5 per game. But how can that be, you ask, when a game consists of four 12-minute quarters? Well, consider the fact that he literally almost never left the court, and then factor in the minutes he put in during overtime contests, and there you have it. That's also how you score 100 points in a single game. Basically unfathomable! Offered here is one of the most important and iconic rookie cards ever printed: the 1961 Fleer Wilt Chamberlain. Graded NM 7 by PSA, this one offers unbeatable color retention and a crisply defined image of the legendary cager, with light factory rough cuts on both vertical edges and corners that fall well within the standards for the given grade. The reverse is deeply impressed with only the slightest evidence of age toning, and if the obverse centering were slightly more accurate, this one would most likely be residing in a higher-grade holder. A top-notch example of a legendary collectible keepsake, which any advanced world-class collection would be honored to include.
