After producing a crude set in 1948 that was fraught with color variations and centering issues, Leaf abandoned the baseball card market and left Bowman as the sole mainstream producer of baseball cards. Twelve years later with Topps having knocked Bowman out of the game and Fleer relegated to producing "Baseball Greats" cards, Leaf returned for another whack at it in 1960, partnering with Sports Novelties Inc. to offer a 144-card black and white collection. Instead of gum, candy or another confection, Leaf mysteriously included marbles within the pack of "baseball photos," advertising them as such to sidestep any potential lawsuit. Presented is perhaps the one and only complete 1960 Leaf Baseball unopened wax box known to exist. This is a series 2 box (#73-144), examined and authenticated by Steve Hart (Baseball Card Exchange) with the BBCE seal on the bottom. Steve notes that the many of the packs have minor to severe rips along the top from the marbles shifting around but are completely sealed and intact.
